Hey there!!!

So you are here to learn about my method of creating an easy to manage website yourself from scratch.

These steps or tutorial as you might wish to refer to it is aimed at absolute beginners, so no prior technical knowledge is required. I will try and help keep your setting up and running costs as low as possible, which is why I will try where possible to use opensource software and scripts. As a result of this I will be using WordPress as a platform for running the website and Filezilla as the FTP client used to upload the files.

I am going to split this tutorial into five parts which are:

Purchasing a Domain

Obtaining Hosting

Linking your Domain and Hosting

Setting up WordPress

Customisation options

Having it split like this means you can follow through from start to finish and end up with a complete website or you could just jump in wherever you need to.

I hope you find these mini tutorials useful and if you need to ask anything just post it in as a comment.

Hey Everyone!!

So this is the fifth and final part of my guide to setting up a website where I will show you how to modify your website!!

First thing I do is change the permalinks. To do this you need to go to: http://www.yourblogurl.com/wp-admin/options-permalink.php and chose one of the options that appeals to you most. I personally prefer setting it to custom and using this: “/%postname%/”

Secondly, we need to get a theme up and running!!

To add a new theme you need to first of all find that theme, then upload it using FTP (FileZilla) to your “wp-content/themes/” folder.

To activate it, you need to go tohttp://www.yourblogurl.com/wp-admin/themes.php and activate whichever theme you want.

When it comes to free themes, I’ve found the following sites to be the best resources:

http://www.wpskins.org/

http://wordpressthemesbase.com/

http://www.skinpress.com/category/wordpress/

You might want to install some plugins too. To do this, go to: http://www.yourblogurl.com/wp-admin/plugins.php and search for whatever you may come to mind.

This concludes my guide to setting up a website.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to me at any time.

Hey there!!

So now we’ve done all the hard stuff and now can move onto all the easy stuff. Here I will show you how to install WordPress.

Database Stuff

First of all, we will need to create a MySQL database.

Since we have been using Hostgator throughout these tutorials, I shall demonstrate this with cPanel. Also cPanel is a very common system used by a lot of hosting companies, so if you’re not using Hostgator but using cPanel this is still valid for you

So to create a database you need to log onto cpanel usually using something like this: http://www.domainname.com/cpanel and log in when requested using your username and password. Head towards the MySQL section. Create a new user and also create a new database and then link the new user you just made to the database.

For a better overview, have a look at this video showing you how to create a new database and linking a new user to it.

WordPress

Now that we have all the database side of things set up, we can now move on to uploading our files.

So first thing is first, we need to get you the latest copy of WordPress. So go to the Official WordPress Download Page Here and download it to your computer. Once downloaded extract the zip file and note where it’s been extracted.

We now need to upload the files onto the server, for this, we will use an FTP program. For the sake of reducing the costs, I will show you how to do this using Filezilla.

So head over to the FileZilla Download Page and download and install it.

Launch the program and when asked for server name, enter your domain name, so something like yourdomain.com and your username and password information are the same as your cPanel information that you’ve used earlier to log on.

Once you’re logged in successfully, navigate to your “public_html” folder and upload the contents of the WordPress Folder such that all the files and folders associated with WordPress are in your “public_html” folder.

Have a look here for some guidance notes on using Filezilla.

Once that upload is complete, you need to navigate to yourdomain.com and follow the on-screen installation instructions. You will need to enter the information you entered earlier for setting up a database. Leave the table prefix as “wp_” and most likely your sever name will remain as “localhost”. Create your admin account and password and setup the name of your blog.

Have a look here for the official guidance notes on how to install WordPress and troubleshooting.

And that’s IT! You now have the basic frame work of a website up and running!

Next up I’ll be showing you how to modify and edit your brand new website!!

Hey there!!

It’s great to see you still being here with us!!! So I am assuming you’re here now because you have a domain name and a hosting package and you want to link them together.

Well this is an easy part. The only problem with it though is that it could take up to 48 hours in total for it all to be working in order.

First of all, we need to get your DNS Server Names sometimes also called as NS Server Names. There is usually two of them and are usually included in your account confirmation email. So make a note of them.

Secondly, we need to point your domain name to these server addresses. So go to your domain control panel. Each registrar is different, but with GoDaddy I think the following video will be the best way to show you:

How to Change DNS Servers within GoDaddy

Now this is all done, you will need to wait up to 48 hours before you can move onto step four where I’ll show you how to install wordpress.

Welcome back!!

So now we can assume you have a domain name registered and in this is part one of my series of tutorials we will talk about hosting.

The first thing we need to get is Hosting. This is the place where your website files will be stored.

There are two options for us. Free hosting or paid hosting. It’s absolutely up to you which you want, however, from personal experience I found that going with paid hosting puts you mind at ease because:

It’s very secure and less susceptible to hacking attacks

It’s very reliable so the uptime percentage is very close to 100%

Reliable help and support available right away

As a company of preference I use Hostgator, although there are several options out there available on the market. Other companies I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about are ASO (A Small Orange) and BlueHost. I will stick with Hostgator since it’s easier to manage, work with and uses cPanel.

I would advice with going with the smallest, cheapest package to start off with since it will most likely cover your needs, and if needs be, you can always upgrade when you feel you have to. So in Hostgator’s case, this would be the hatchling plan.

Sign up for a year or more (Make sure it coincides with however long you plan to register your domain for) and follow the steps they have on-screen.

Chose package

Enter domain and coupon

You can save 25% with Hostgator right away using this coupon code: ASG25OFFNOW

Fill in the billing details and pay up your preferred method of payment. Personally, I’ve always stuck with Paypal.

Next up in my series of tutorials is showing you how to link your domain and hosting accounts together.

Dear Readers,

In a previous post I promised you an article in which I would attempt to explain the best way to maintain the pagerank of a dropped domain.

What I’ve been noticing a lot of lately are lots of expired domains with pagerank available to register. However they are all ORANGE meaning that they are not indexed by google, could be for several reasons. The main two are:

1- SEO blackhat methods used to obtain this PageRank. However there would be several indications for that such as an unusually high PR or the text being RED and telling you where it redirects to.

2- The index has been removed purely because Googlebot has visited the website and found nothing, which consequently leads to it being removed.

What I will effectively be showing you in this article is how to get THAT domain re-listed into google and as a result the reinstatement of the PR. Clever.. eh..

The first thing we need to do is establish what was on that website before, the page and internal link structure. Now I know some of you will be thinking.. but hold on.. how can we go back in time and look at all that… the google cache page is probably removed too. Well I tell you to fear not. A lot of people haven’t heard of or seen the wayback machine. It’s a great tool to show you the history of any website and how it changed over time. Some records even date back to the mid-1990′s which I think is pure awesomeness. The design of some of the big websites of today does look truly hideous when you look back at it. But I feel I am going astray from our main topic, so back to it. We need to establish what the inner pages of that domain were and whether they still have traffic/links/pagerank. I have a tool which I plan to release for sale very soon to help with this matter.

If we look back at the process of domain expiration, let’s say asgsoft.net (which I used to own and lost due to lack of experience) it had a period of 30 days which I lost all control over DNS management, unless I renewed it. During that time it was in the hands of the registrar (such as Godaddy/Name.com etc.) and they would publish a standard parking page saying something along the lines of “asgsoft.net has expired. The owner has 30 days to renew the domain name from the expiry date.” And that is true. The owner has 30 days to renew it after it’s officially expired without any problems what so ever.

Assuming the 30 days are up and I don’t renew the domain then it enters the final phase more commonly known as “Pending-Deletion” which is a 14 day period during which I don’t have control over the domain at all. Now it’s gone, and that period is for backorder companies to allow them to place pre-orders on it, so once it drops it’s picked up straight away, which unfortunately happened with asgsoft.net.

Total time that a registrar’s parking page has been displayed now on asgsoft.net is 44 days! Now, if a domain has a PR1+ it must mean that it has an OK-ish set of backlinks. That would mean that Google’s spider (Cleverer than your ordinary spider) is visiting on a regular basis, and has most likely detected the change in the contents, maybe from a unique contents page to a more familiar parking page.

My theory is, once the parking page has been detected then the domain is ear-marked and once it remains on display for X amount of days, then the domains, which in that case is asgsoft.net is removed from the index. Yet the PageRank remains unaffected, but again, that is only for a set certain number of days say Y after it has been removed. Google is not commenting on this theory and unfortunately I don’t have exact values for the X and Y days.

I also think it’s extremely possible to convert an ORANGE domain to a valid PageRank domain in less than a week. Last month, I bought an expired domain PR2 I published here which wasn’t indexed in Google. I placed a small simple contents page and linked to it from a PR3 site, submitted it to major search engines using this tool and to Google itself, set up a sitemap and also added it there and also to Bing and waited. Within a week it was back re-indexed and the PageRank has been validated. It now is a Valid PR2 domain which I got for $1.99

So how do I get my domain re-indexed quickly?

Submit it to major search engines using this tool

Submit it to Google directly using this link

Create an account for it with Google Webmaster Tools

Link to it from other websites/directories

Have some content to the website

One thing I forgot to do was to add a Google Analytics code to it to monitor its traffic, so I shall be doing so in the next experiment I conduct.

What are your views??

Dear Readers,

Here is a crazy idea that I have been toying with for a long time now! IS using Youtube as a marketing tool a successful idea or not? Lots of things could be assumed. Just think of the millions that go there daily. What if I can get exposure to my website through a tiny tiny fraction, 0.001% would do me to be honest That surely would drive traffic! There is only one way to find out!

So off I went to my “trusty” Movie Maker and created a 3 minute video about Domain Left, a simple movie of just animated text, to see what, if any impact it would have.

I have uploaded the video to Youtube for now, although I plan on placing it in many more locations in order to give it as much exposure as possible.

I shall be updating you here with any news of this trail and whether it was worth the time and effort or not!

For those that wish to have a look at the video then please go here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oxMJi4jWASU

Dear Readers,

How about that! An Expired Valid PR4 domain yesterday for you. Whoever registered it must be so pleased.

Anyway I wanted to write this article for a while now and here it is. I wanted to say what you will need to do once you register a domain. This is what I think in my opinion and is what I usually do with nothing withheld from you.

So I have registered an expired domain with a Valid PR4 like the one I had yesterday. Now what?

What I would do firstly is find some hosting and add some contents, that would be several pages of unique content.

Secondly I would add Google Analytics so I can monitor current traffic and see what it’s sources are. I would also usually use Domain-Pop that gives a decent breakdown of the domains backlinks. The only problem I find with it is that it takes some time to get the PageRank of the backlinks in order.

I then would leave it alone for a week to see what current traffic is like, the sources of traffic, percentage of returning to new visitors and where I can improve them.

After the week passes I would check if it’s indexed in major search engines such as google, yahoo and MSN (Live) by entering these search queries:

Google: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Adomain.com
Yahoo: http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/search?p=http%3A%2F%2Fdomain.com
MSN (Live): http://search.msn.co.uk/results.aspx?q=site%3Adomain.com The Kingdom Flightplan hd

If it’s listed then GREAT, you got indexed within 7 days, otherwise don’t worry, we’ll get there.

This step is a must to ensure constant indexing and a good SERPS for your domain. You would need to generate a sitemap for your website. What this does is generate a network of all the pages on your website and present it to search engines as if to say “Look here, I’ll save you the trouble of looking for pages, here is a list of the pages for you to index“. The best free tool I found is http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ which to be honest is great in every aspect of the word. It’s Free, Easy to use and has a nice interface.

Once you upload it you then submit it to google by going to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview?hl=en which is the base google uses to communicate with webmasters.

Recently MSN launched a similar service which does the same think, but instead, just for MSN at http://webmaster.live.com/.

Once you did that I really recommend the next step. Semi-Automatic Directory Submission for FREE. Digixmas have developed an amazing piece of software that will send it to 150 directories for free. You will only have to copy the CAPTCHA code, select the category and press OK. Their link is: http://www.digixmas.com/

Finally, to let everyone know about your website I really recommend adding it to Stumble Upon Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels download and Digg as they are visited by a lot of people with wide range of interests, and if someone finds it interesting they will for sure check it out. There are other networks out there but not as big as both the ones I mentioned.

After you did all the steps mentioned above give it 2-3 days and use google analytics to monitor traffic.

Let me know what you get if you followed these steps.

Do you do anything extra? or cut out any of these steps?

I hope you like this list

See you on Monday with another list of expired domains

Enjoy

Before we start, you need to see what backlinks you have and how they are PR wise. I recommend using this tool to see how your website’s backlinks are sorted. This is because it does the job extremely well and in a nice format. However I must warn you that not all backlinks will be listed and I know the tool creators are working on it and doing all they can to fix it.

Also I have to make it clear that this is only an educated guess. This is becuase google wouldn’t reveal the acctual formulae they use to calculate PR becuase it would cause even more exploitations of PR.

Now that you have the details about your backlinks we can use one of these two rules to calculate what it would be most likely like:

buy The Sugarland Express Rule 1: 19 PRx links to get PRx (i.e. 19 PR4 links to get a PR4).
Rule 2: 4 PRx links to get PR(x-1) (i.e. 4 PR5 links to get a PR4).
Rule 3: 101 PRx links to get PR(x+1) (i.e. 101 PR3 links to get a PR4).

Before you go and buy an expired domain please read these simple steps that will show you whether that domain is a gem in the rough or just another pointless domain.

Firstly how old is the domain been indexed properly for? What was previously on it ? Is it something you can continue or even improve on?

Well to find out you use the wayback machine Secret Diary of a Call Girl dvd which will tell you all you need to know about its history.

Secondly did it get any traffic before?

People will disagree with what I am about to say but I believe that Alexa

Population 436 psp
Wonder Woman trailer

is a good indicator of how traffic to the site has changed over time, becuase other than that you can’t really get anything that has monitored the traffic for your specific domain. The higher the nummber the worse, but its expected becuase it has expired. So look at the prime age of the domain rather than the last days. Possibly use a longer time-span to look at the traffic’s trend.

The Black Knight hd

Thirdly and pretty important too, is there any decent backlinks?

These are extremely important for you to see what impact the site had on people. Did the previous owners manage to pick up backlinks from others due to the quality of their content? Or did they exchange a lot of links? Or did they just go and buy links? Backlinks Watch does a great job in showing you the backlinks the site has.

Finally does the domain have a valid PageRank (PR) that is lasted?

Usually when some domains expire and google realises it drops its also its indexed pages. Making it seem to have an invalid or unknown PR. However there are some good tools out there that would find out for you for certain. Newcastle move

Try all of these and see what you get?

I highly recommend the first one becuase its trusted and not easily fooled, however the rest are still good.

1. CheckPageRank.net: < Recommended
http://checkpagerank.net/index.php?n…in.com&links=1
2. VerifyGooglePageRank.com:
http://www.verifygooglepagerank.com/…yourdomain.com
3. iWebTool.com:
http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_che…yourdomain.com
4. SeoLogs.com:
http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/page…yourdomain.com
5. DigPageRank.com:
http://digpagerank.com/index.php?url…main.com&dc=18
6. PageRank.net:
http://www.pagerank.net/pagerank-checker
7. PRchecker.info:
http://prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php
8. DomainPageRank.com:
http://domainpagerank.com

Finally see if its indexed by google , and if it is, are there any inner pages with PR. I am working on a tool which I will submit here when I finish it. This would so useful because you can re-use these pages

So I hope that this artlcle shows you how and why you should get an excellent PR expired domain which you can maximise on both in traffic and profits. The possibilities are endless.

Enjoy and don’t get ripped off

Which is better and what should you go for?

New domains have the benefit of freedom to choose what you need. They allow you to market and promote them the way you wish. However you will start with PR0, 0 Backlinks, 0 unique visits a day and $0 a year.

And it will require a lot of work to improve of these 0s.

Old domains do have several good features. Firstly its old so its likely to be know round a bit to search engines, directories and people who are interested in that niche. Also it might have some organic decent backlinks which will be bringing in traffic and also be improving your Google PageRank(PR). Finally they might have been genrating income before making you able to generate atleast that income easily but also allowing you to capitalize on it easier than if starting from $0.

I advice you that you should go for a good expired domain. Look out soon for the next post about how to get an excellent expired domain and don’t get done.

.!.

I hear you ask What makes a PR (Google’s PageRank) domain so special?

Well let me answer your question.

Assuming the PR of the domain is genuine and not fake then it tells you a lot about it. To gain PR sites must provide quality links to that domain, thus the PR is passed down to the linked domain/page.

Also when a site has a quality link people tend to visit it and check its content out, which in return generates traffic and also gets spidered by google more often.

Traffic is an important aspect if you are after a good website especially if you are after generating income using PPC networks such as google’s AdWords, Clicksor etc..

Bing spidered by google often means that you are likely to gain a higher position in google’s search results which goes back to generating more organic

traffic.

Also it helps towards improving your SERP (search engine results page) because the more people viewing a certain web-page for certain keywords the more likely it will show up in your pages SERP.

So I hope I managed to inform you why Google’s PageRank is important. Not the most important but plays a role in a good website.

I was asked by a reader “How do I register a domain”

Well all registrars make it easy by simple steps that you can follow. So I decided to give you a small list of registrars (Only 15!!) I’d recommend for you people new to all of this.

1- Namecheap is very easy to use and also supports paypal. Their prices for .com are considerably cheap with $8.88. There admin panel is exrenley easy to use and their support is excellent.

2- Godaddy is the registrar where you can regsiter the biggest range of extensions for considerably less. Their prices for .com domains is $8.95. However their administrative panel is very hard to get the hang of as its not the standard so personally I found it hard to get my head round and took a couple of days.

3- Dynadot is for those from countries who can’t pay via Paypal, as they accept Moneybookers. For .com domains they have the cheapest prices of around $7.99. They are cheap, the admin panel is very easy, simple and straight forward to use

You won’t lose the money but you will lose the bid on that domain. You will not get a refund but will have to use it on another domain. The Last Legion download

Dear Readers

I know I haven’t posted a domain tip in ages but that’s because a deal I was in the middle of went up into flames. So sorry about that.

OK, lets get to the point.

You’ve just bought a domain from one of our daily published list and the domain has a valid PR3. It has some decent traffic (lets say around 20 uniques a day) Now what? I hear you ask.

I’ve discussed this before but what can you really do with it?

Well here is an idea:

Firstly create an account with Google Analytics

Wolvesbayne the movie Nashville video

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock film The Mummy’s Ghost movie

Purple Rain ipod

Maniac Cop 2 movie download

.This is an excellent tracking website which gives conscience detailed

Add some content (making it unique) then add some PPC adverts.

I just started using them again, and as I was banned from google adsense and ineligible for yahoo ad network I had troubles finding a decent provider.

However I came across WidgetBucks which so far have been pretty good.

Maybe you could also sell some banner space.

I strongly don’t recommend selling any links on the website because this will get the PR and indexed pages dropped.

Anyway that’s it for me.

Looking foreword to writing next weeks tip.

What can I do with a domain I buy?

This has been an issue I am aware off with those who get a bright spark of registering a domain with PR and then realizing that they have no use for it. Well if thats you then please read on.

There is a lot you can do with your domain and I am about to tell you what you can do.

You can make a one page mini-site as demonstrated by Scott of SMM. They take one of two forms. Either 1-3 page informative website full with unique useful contents or The Italian Job buy a one page tool/calculator that will have all work done on one page.

You can make a MFA (Made For AdSense) site which will bring in some instant cash providing people visit the adverts. These are pre-made pages with AdSense already setup and all you need to do is change the memeber key so that it is linked to your account. You leave it there and it gets indexed. And becuase there is already traffic and links for it the ads get a high level of impressions thus making a single click very valuable. However I must warn you that you are putting your AdSense account under risk of closure because MFA sites are against the Google AdSense ToS.

Alternatively you can park the domain which will make it age and gain value and also some cents if somebody finds an advert interesting. If you decide to park your domain I would recommend using SEDO

Jerry Maguire video

because they are very easy to use, offer good payment and also offer relative adverts.

You can create a Link cloud for PR4+ such as the one available here. I don’t recommend this unless you have a good domain name like the one I have but they do bring in some ca$h with the minimum amount of work. And their potential is unlimited.

Another thing you can do is develop the domain with some useful contents and look after it as a proper working website which will grow. Maybe slowly but steadily

Finally you can sell Darby O’Gill and the Little People move it on places like digitalpoint as they have a very big marketplace with people who have a lot of $$ to spend and if the domain is worthwhile you won’t be let down.Mad Max movie full

Wrong Turn 3 full

Beowulf & Grendel dvd
